Aaron LaPlante é conhecido por sua voz em Resident Evil Village (2021), Primal (2019) e Samurai Jack (2001). O ator se garante no que faz e está sempre em busca de novos trabalhos! Ele inclusive já estudou com Sara Coates e Jeannete Maus, as dubladoras de Marguerite Baker/Luiza e Cassandra Dimitrescu! Infelizmente Jeannete faleceu em 2021, em decorrência de um câncer!
Confira abaixo, na íntegra, a entrevista do EvilHazard em Parceria com a streamer Bia Play, em Português do Brasil! O dublador falou como ele enxerga o personagem O Duque na história de Resident Evil Village!

1. Como, onde e quando você foi chamado para interpretar “O Duque” em Resident Evil Village?
1. Eu fiz o teste para o papel e consegui. Tive a sorte de conhecer Sara Coates, que interpretou Marguerite Baker em Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Ela e eu fomos para a escola no Estado de Washington juntos, então depois que ela estava em RE7 Biohazard, ela começou a trabalhar na produção do Village. Eles perguntaram se ela tinha alguém que ela gostaria de sugerir para uma audição, ela me sugeriu porque eu já tinha uma carreira decente de dublador. Eu fiz o teste para um papel menor primeiro, mas eles não queriam me dar porque eles queriam me deixar para uma parte maior. Essa parte acabou sendo O Duque.
2. Você já conhecia Resident Evil antes de interpretar O Duque em Resident Evil Village?
Eu estava bem ciente da franquia Resident Evil. Eu jogo desde os 12 anos. Então, quando eu descobri que estaria no Village, você pode imaginar como animado eu estava.
3. Você pretende jogar Resident Evil Village?
Já joguei uma vez e agora vou voltar para tentar e experimentar qualquer coisa que eu possa ter perdido.
4. Como foi o processo de voz e Mo-Cap para O Duque em Resident Evil Village?
Só fiz teste de voz para o Duque. Ele é tão grande e não se move tanto assim eu realmente não fiz nenhum Mo-Cap para ele. O processo foi interessante porque quando eu fiz o teste, fiz uma voz muito mais profunda e soava muito áspera e tinha um sotaque europeu. Quando fiz meu primeiro dia de gravação, fiz aquela voz e eles disseram que eles queriam algo diferente. Então, criamos a voz juntos. Eu apenas tentava coisas diferentes e eles diziam sim ou não. Foi um processo interessante porque eu estava apenas na cabine, mas eu estava sendo dirigido por uma sala cheia de pessoas do outro lado do mundo que não falavam inglês. Então eu tive que seguir a direção de um intérprete. Felizmente, todas as pessoas da Capcom são muito pacientes e gentis.
5. O que você acha do Duque? Se identifica com ele em algo?
Amo muito o Duque. Eu amo que ele têm uma confiança lúdica. Acho que me identifico com ele por essa razão. Acho que é importante ser confiante, mas também gentil e brincalhão. Eu também amo que ele é tão misterioso. Imagino que seja muito divertido para o jogador confiar nele e também não saber podem realmente confiar nele.
6. Como a Capcom te descreveu O Duque?
Eles me disseram que ele teria a função básica de um comerciante no jogo e já que eu mesmo jogava jogos, eu sabia exatamente o que significavam. Eles queriam que eu me concentrasse em ser útil, mas também misterioso. É por isso que fiz o tom da voz do Duque subir e descer muito. Apoiar Ethan é sua função principal, mas é um jogo de Resident Evil, eles não queriam que Ethan fosse totalmente capaz de confiar nele até o fim.
7. Como você está lidando com os fãs nas redes sociais?
Todos os fãs foram muito gentis e eu realmente aprecio todo o apoio incrível. Eu não preciso lidar com muita atenção porque as pessoas amam o Duque, mas não quase tanto quanto todos os outros personagens. Eu faço pequenos autógrafos aqui e ali e às vezes, se eu vir uma mensagem particularmente sincera, eu responderei e as pessoas parecem estar muito animadas com isso, então foi divertido poder alegrar o dia de alguém dessa forma. Eu também sou fã de muitas coisas diferentes, então entendo como elas se sentem. Em geral, eu também não estou focado na atenção. Estou muito mais focado em conseguir outro emprego. Eu nunca me importei sobre ser famoso por qualquer coisa, eu só quero trabalhar e ganhar a vida.
8. Qual sua frase favorita do Duque? Diz pra gente!
Eu gosto do discurso explicativo quando o Duque informa Ethan sobre os quatro senhores e a mãe Miranda. Foi muito divertido para mim interpretar e desde então memorizei. Às vezes, se alguém quer ouvir a voz, direi apenas o discurso inteiro. É divertido para mim assistir seus rostos quando esperavam que eu dissesse apenas uma linha, mas depois vou para todo o discurso. Haha!
9. O Duque é um personagem bem curioso, e também muito carismático. Como você descreveria ele?
O Duque é um personagem muito poderoso, mas tem intenções benevolentes. Parece como se ele não pode ser morto e tem um poder contra o qual nem mesmo Mãe Miranda pode fazer. Portanto, ele tem permissão para existir na paisagem do Village e fazer seus negócios como achar melhor. Eu tenho uma sensação de que ele também é um pouco psíquico, vendo como ele aparece bem quando Ethan precisa dele a maioria. Eu sinto que há algo o mantendo amarrado na trama de Village e ele não pode partir por alguma razão. Então, ajudar Ethan a destruir a vila está no seu melhor interesse. Estas são apenas minhas teorias, no entanto, elas não são baseadas em fatos. É assim que eu via ele e como pensei nele enquanto estava gravando a voz.
10. Como você descreveria o relacionamento do Duque com o Ethan? Acha que ele tinha boas intenções?
Sim muito mesmo. Acho que ele se preocupa com Ethan, mas também se preocupa consigo mesmo. Ele percebe que se Ethan realizar seus objetivos, o Duque também realizará os seus.
11. Qual foi a parte mais divertida de dublar o Duque?
Eu não me diverti em nada. É minha voz.
12. Defina Duque em uma palavra.
Aliado.
13. Se você fosse chamado para interpretar Duque em algum filme de Resident Evil, você aceitaria? Como você acha que seria?
Eu adoraria e certamente aceitaria. Seria uma honra absoluta. Eu acho que seria uma experiência incrível e eu daria uma ótima atuação. Para não ser arrogante, mas eu sou um profissional. Não sou bom em muitas coisas, mas tenho a sorte de fazer uma coisa boa, que é atuar.
14. Como é seu relacionamento com os outros atores envolvidos em Resident Evil Village?
Eles são todos pessoas maravilhosas. Infelizmente não tenho conseguido gastar muito tempo com muitos deles. Quando fizemos nossa reunião no canal da Nicole Tompkins no Twitch, isso foi a primeira vez que pude encontrar com muitos deles. Uma vez que todos eles fizeram o mo-cap juntos, todos eles tiveram a chance de se relacionar e se tornarem amigos. Espero poder conhecê-los todos melhor no futuro. Pelo que tenho visto até agora, eles são pessoas absolutamente maravilhosas.
15. Você chegou a conhecer o Mercador (Personagem similar ao Duque, de Resident Evil 4) ?
Na verdade, nunca joguei o 4. Então, não era muito familiarizado. Eles me disseram que havia outro comerciante personagem de um jogo anterior, mas não assisti nenhuma filmagem ou jogabilidade porque não queria que nenhuma das escolhas do meu personagem fosse influenciada. Eu aprendi que o comerciante do 4 é um personagem tão querido e eu acho que ele tornou possível o Duque entrar no universo de RE Village.

1. How, where and when were you asked to play “The Duke” in Resident Evil Village?
I auditioned for the part and I got it. I am lucky enough to know Sara Coates who played Marguerite Baker in Resident Evil Biohazard. She and I went to high school up in Washington state together so after she was in Biohazard she started working for the production company on Village. They asked her if she had anyone she would like to suggest for an audition, she suggested me because I already had a decent VoiceOver career. I auditioned for a smaller part first but they didn’t want to give it to me because they wanted to save me for a bigger part. That part ended up being the Duke.
2. Did you already know Resident Evil before playing The Duke in Resident Evil Village?
I was well aware of the Resident Evil franchise. I’ve been playing it since I was about 12 years old. So when I found out that I was going to be in Village, you can imagine how excited I was.
3. Do you intend to play Resident Evil Village?
I have already played it through once and now I am going back through it to try and experience anything I might have missed.
4. How was the voice and Mo-Cap process for The Duke in Resident Evil Village?
I only did VoiceOver for the Duke. He is so large and doesn’t move around that much so I didn’t really do any Mo-Cap for him. The process was interesting because when I auditioned, I did did a much deeper voice and was very harsh sounding and had an Eastern European accent. When I did my first day of recording, I did that voice and they said that they wanted something different. So we came up with the voice together. I would just try different things and they would say yes or no. I was an interesting process because I was in the booth alone but I was being directed by a room full of people on the other side of the world who didn’t speak English. So I had to take the direction through and interpreter. Luckily all of the people at Capcom are very patient and kind people.
5. What do you think of the Duke? Do you identify with him in something?
I love the Duke very much. I love that he has a playful confidence. I think I identify with him for that reason. I think it is important to be confident but also kind and playful. I also love that he is so mysterious. I imagine it is very fun for the player to rely on him and also not know if they can trust him.
6. How did Capcom explain The Duke to you?
They told me that he would serve the basic function of an in game merchant and since I play games myself, I knew exactly what they meant. They wanted me to focus on being helpful but also mysterious. That is why I made the the tone in the Duke’s voice go up and down so much. Supporting Ethan is his primary function, but because it’s a Resident Evil game, they didn’t want Ethan to fully be able to trust him unit the end.
7. How are you dealing with fans on social media?
All of the fans have been very kind and I really appreciate all of their amazing support. I don’t really have to deal with too much attention because people love the Duke, but not nearly as much as all of the other characters. I do small autograph singings here and there and sometimes, if I see a particularly sincere message I will reply and people seem to get very excited about that so it’s been fun to be able to brighten someone’s day in that way. I’m a fan many different things myself so I understand how they feel. In general, I’m not too focused on the attention. I am much more focused on getting another job. I’ve never cared about being famous for anything, I just want to work and make a living.
8. What is your favorite phrase from the Duke? Tell us!
I like the exposition speech when the Duke informs Ethan about the four lords and Mother Miranda. It was very fun for me to perform and I have since memorized it. Sometimes, if someone wants to hear the voice, I will just say the entire speech. It’s fun for me to watch their face when they expected me to say just one line but then I go into he whole speech. Haha
9. The Duke is a very curious character, and also very charismatic. How would you describe him?
The Duke is a very powerful character but he has benevolent intentions. It seems as though he can’t be killed and he has a power that even Mother Miranda can’t do anything about. So he is allowed to exist in the Village landscape and do his business as he sees fit. I have a feeling he is also a bit psychic seeing as how he shows up right when Ethan needs him most. I feel like there is something keeping him tied to the Village and he can’t leave for some reason. So helping Ethan bring about the destruction of the Village is in his best interest. These are all just my theories however, they aren’t based in facts. It is just how I see him and how I thought about him while I was recording the voice.
10. How would you describe the Duke’s relationship with Ethan? Do you think he meant well?
Yes, very much so. I think he cares about Ethan but he also cares about himself. He realizes that if Ethan accomplishes his goals, then the Duke will also accomplish his.
11. What was the funnest part of lip-synching the Duke?
I didn’t lip-synch anything. It is my voice
12. Define Duke in one word.
Ally.
13. If you were asked to play Duke in a Resident Evil movie! Would you accept? How do you think it would be?
I would love it and I would certainly accept. It would be an absolute honor. I think it would be an incredible experience and I would give a great performance. Not to be arrogant but I am a professional. I’m not good at a great many things, but one thing I am lucky enough to be good at is acting.
14. How is your relationship with the other actors involved in Resident Evil Village?
They are all wonderful people. Unfortunately I have not been able to spend very much time with many of them. When we did our reunion on Nicole Tompkins Twitch channel, that was the first time that I was able to meet a lot of them. Since they all did the mo-cap together, they all had a chance to bond and become friends. Hopefully I will get to know them all better in the future. From what I’ve seen so far, they are all absolutely wonderful people
15. Did you get to know the Merchant (Character similar to the Duke, of Resident Evil 4)?
I actually never played 4. So I wasn’t too familiar. They told me there was another merchant character from a previous game but I didn’t watch any footage or gameplay because I didn’t want any of my character choices to be influenced at all. I have learned since that the merchant from 4 is such a beloved character and I think he made it possible for the Duke to join the RE Village universe.
